About Us
1996
Dr. Kichul Cha founded Biospace Co., Ltd. in Seoul, South Korea, with the mission of replacing inaccurate bioelectrical impedance devices with a medically reliable alternative. The company was later renamed InBody Co., Ltd. in 2014.
Dr. Kichul Cha, founder of Biospace (later renamed InBody Co., Ltd.), overcame the limitations of conventional body composition analysis technology and created the world's first commercial body composition analyzer with high accuracy and reproducibility.
This was a milestone for Korean medical engineering, establishing a platform for Korean standard technology to be used worldwide.
1996
1997
The Bioengineering Research Center was established to drive ongoing R&D in bioelectrical impedance, electrode design, and clinical validation — the foundation for every InBody device that followed.
2000
InBody has been active in international markets from the beginning. The company invested in training its employees as product experts so they could pioneer markets that previously did not exist and educate customers on a new category of medical-grade body composition analysis.
2002
InBody's dedicated Cheonan Production Factory comes online, vertically integrating manufacturing of the analyzer hardware, electrodes, and assembly — a key reason every InBody device is built to medical-grade tolerances.
2005
Earlier devices had been sold under multiple Biospace product names. In 2005 the entire body composition analyzer portfolio was unified under a single “InBody” series — making the brand recognisable to clinicians and consumers worldwide.
To enter the B2C market and diversify our product line, we launched a home-use body composition analyzer.
We expanded into the consumer market with the message that body composition tracking should be a cumulative health practice — not a one-off substitute for a weight scale.

2009
InBody enters a strategic business partnership with GE Healthcare, validating its bioelectrical impedance technology against one of the largest medical-device platforms in the world.
2012
In 2012 InBody is awarded the 10 Million Dollar Export Tower on Korea's Trade Day, recognising the company's growing international footprint. In the same year, the InBody U.S. office relocates from Beverly Hills to Cerritos, California to accommodate the expanding North American team.
2013
The InBody 570 launches with segmental fat analysis and visceral fat measurement, becoming one of the most widely deployed body composition analyzers in clinics and gyms globally.
2014
Biospace Co., Ltd. is renamed InBody Co., Ltd. to align the corporate identity with its globally recognised flagship brand. The same year, the InBody 770 research-grade analyzer launches and the InBody 570 wins the Red Dot Design Award.
2015
The InBody BAND debuts as the world’s first wearable body composition device. The same year, the InBody 770 wins the iF Design Award and the InBody BAND + InLab win a CES 2015 Innovation Award. InBody also receives the Foreign Direct Investment Award from the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
2016
Established InBody Asia (Malaysia) and InBody India as official regional subsidiaries — bringing medical-grade body composition technology directly to South and Southeast Asia under the InBody banner.
