Body Composition Analysis
A BCA test (Body Composition Analysis) measures fat, muscle, water, and visceral fat in 60 seconds. Far more useful than a regular weighing scale or BMI calculator. Here's everything you need to know.
A BCA test — short for Body Composition Analysis — is a non-invasive scan that measures the percentage of fat, muscle, water, and bone in your body. It takes about 60 seconds, requires no needles or radiation, and gives you a printed report with 30+ metrics about your body.
The most widely used BCA test in Indian hospitals, gyms, and wellness clinics is the InBody scan. It uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) — a safe, low-intensity electrical current that maps your body composition with 98% correlation to DEXA scan accuracy.
Unlike a regular weighing scale (which only measures total weight) or a BMI calculator (which assumes everyone with the same height-weight ratio has the same body), a BCA test tells you exactly how much fat, how much muscle, and how much water your body actually contains.
An InBody BCA test gives you all of these metrics on a single printed report.
Total fat mass and percentage. Plus segmental fat — how much fat in each arm, leg, and trunk.
Precise muscle mass per body segment. Track strength training progress accurately.
The dangerous fat around your organs — rated 1 to 20. Key cardiovascular risk indicator.
Total body water split into intracellular (inside cells) and extracellular (outside cells). Hydration and edema detection.
The calories your body burns at rest. Critical for diet and nutrition planning.
A single 0–100 score summarising your overall body composition. Easy to track over time.
Two people, both 5'8" and 75 kg. Same BMI of 25. By BMI, they are identical. By BCA test, they could not be more different.
Person A: 22% body fat, 30 kg muscle, visceral fat level 6 — healthy. Person B: 32% body fat, 22 kg muscle, visceral fat level 14 — metabolic syndrome risk. BMI cannot see the difference. A BCA test sees it in 60 seconds.
This matters even more in Indian populations, where elevated visceral fat at "normal" BMI is well documented. A BCA test catches what BMI misses.
